How Can I Consistently Shoot in a Specific Kind of Light? | Taking Charge of the Lighting In Your Photos

How Can I Consistently Shoot in a Specific Kind of Light?

Hey! I totally dropped the ball and haven’t been posting blog posts my solo episodes of Your Photographer Mom the past couple weeks but, today, I am re-committing! Cause today’s episode? I freaking love it. In this week’s photography podcast, we talk about something I freaking love: Taking photographs in your favorite kind of light. Don’t have a favorite light? We are chatting about ways to market your works so you can shoot in all kind of light, too!

Here’s a Few Things We’ll Discuss!

Make Light a Part of Your Work!

How This Works for One Kind of Light or ALL types of Light!

Wanna Know This Episode in One Quote? I’ve Always Got You!

Traditionally, we are taught to embrace things like golden hour, cloudy days, and soft sunlight. And those things are great! Some of the most gut-punchingly beautiful images I’ve seen have been taken in this light. They are popular for a reason and the light is freaking stunning. I love photographs taken in golden hour! The secret though? It’s that you can shoot literally anytime of day you want. And for your client work? It’s totally in your control. Personally, I love shooting in all the light and show all the light in my portfolios. Full sun? Sounds great. Golden hour? You know I love it. 6pm on a winter night? I’ll grab my flash.  There’s a reason I can do this though and it’s not 100% because I know I can do it. It’s also because I show it!

Want to Work on Light This Week? Wonderful!

Grab twenty of your favorite photographs and see if there’s a common denominator with the light. Ask yourself:

What do you like? What stands out? Does that type of light make you feel refreshed?

Remember: There’s no one right way to do anything. You’ve got this! Talk to you next week!
