Mixing What You Love What What Sells in Print on Demand
Morning! Today, we are talking about such a fun topic: mixing what we love with what sells in our print on demand shops.
Two years ago, I had just heard about print on demand for the very first time. I had no idea the hole I was about to tumble into, the ridiculously unique designs I was about to make, or the way mockup photography was about to swallow up my whole calendar year in 2023. What I did know, though, was that print on demand sounded really freaking fun.
And y’all! It is. It really freaking is. Let’s go!!
In our fifth episode of Lissa Talks Print on Demand, we’re talking:
Why Paying Attention to Customer Behavior Matters
How Sometimes Our Shops Evolve in an Unexpected Way
What To Do When One Item Pops Off
How To Keep Your Shop Evolving
And a Small Note on AI
Wanna know this episode in one quote? Wonderful! I’ve got you!
“If you want to design merch for frog lovers but the turtle lovers find you, don’t be afraid to pivot.
It’s okay to keep creating turtle merch but you’ll want to add in just as much frog merchandise. I’m not saying it has to be, like, tit for tat but definitely spend some time creating for the stuff your customers are searching for. Your business will evolve as much as you allow it. And while you may have started out wanting to sell mugs with cute turtle designs? Your bestseller might be a frog design on a canvas tote bag. That’s totally valid! And honestly? It’s ridiculously cool, too! Like, isn’t it so amazing that our businesses can grow on their own? I think it’s wonderful!”

Literally forever obsessed with Printify. I use Printify for all of my print on demand printing and I’ll never stop singing their praises. They’re incredible! For design work, I’m totally in love with Canva and also love finding extra artwork + fonts on Creative Fabrica and Creative Market. For photography, I shoot with a Canon R6 and most of my mockup photographs are taken with the 35L or 50L. I do all of my editing in Adobe Lightroom and have since 2011! It’s my jam!
