My cousin and her fiancé married each other this past weekend!
Katy and Chris are the happiest couple in existence and being their wedding photographer was a total highlight of my wedding season. Every wedding is special, of course, but when your baby cousin – the same baby cousin that used to sing Little Mermaid songs at the top of her lungs and the same baby cousin that let you cover her face with $5 play makeup for seven year old “makeovers” and the same baby cousin that is peppered throughout all of your childhood memories – is the bride of one of your summer weddings, it feels surreal in the best way possible. I am so thrilled for these two wonderful people and, most of all, so thrilled for my sweet cousin!
Here are three things I loved about Chris and Katy’s wedding day!
One: The Way Katy and Chris Smiled The Entire Day.
I mean it! These two were all smiles the entire day. Katy’s day started at 4:00 in the morning – she had to be at hair and makeup at 5:00! – and, when my sister and I arrived on the scene at 5:30, she already had a huge grin on her face (side note: This was adorable, even at 5:30 in the morning). Katy had a smile on her face the entire day and, when I took the very last frame of her wedding photographs at 8:03 that night, she and Chris were still smiling. You can’t help but smile when you see the smiling faces of these two lovebirds! Look at them!!
Two: That Katy Had the Wedding of Her Dreams
From the time she was a teenager, Katy always said that she wanted her wedding reception to have barbecue. She always wanted a wedding dress that made her feel like a princess (Katy’s wedding dress was perfect!) and she always wanted her wedding to be full of sunflowers and dancing and color, too. And at age 27? Katy got all of this and more. I loved seeing her dream wedding come to life!
Three: That We Share an Anniversary – and a Wedding Necklace, Too!
Andrew and I were married on June 25th, 2009. Katy and Chris were married on June 25th, 2016. June 25th is the very best wedding date – not that I’m biased in the slightest! – and I love that we get to share this date with Katy and Chris. Katy and I also shared the same wedding necklace. We were lucky to have the best grandmother ever growing up and, at my wedding, I wore a necklace of my grandmother’s. Katy wore the very same necklace at her wedding and I love that we got to share this piece of our grandmother on our wedding days. She was the best lady.
And BONUS! I Love That I’ve Known This Bride Since Birth
Seriously. I have not been able to make it to a family wedding in four and a half years – the last one I was able to attend was Matt and Elizabeth’s wedding in 2011! – and being able to document Katy’s wedding day was the most wonderful experience. Happy tears and all!
