Emily | Senior Model Spotlight Interview

I have had the best time getting to know my 2016 Senior Models over the past year and, now that graduation is around the corner, I’ll be celebrating each of them by posting Senior Model Spotlight interviews every Wednesday from now until the end of school. Here’s Emily, y’all!

It’s Saturday night. What are you doing? On a Saturday night I’m most likely at home having a family game night with some friends over. Yahtzee gets pretty wild.

What activities have you participated in during High School? I’ve participated in Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor Track, NHS, my youth group, FCA, Chamber Choir, Interact Club, various intramural sports, Fields of Faith, mission trips, national charity organizations, etc. I’ve kept myself pretty busy!

What’s one thing you wished you’d known before starting your Senior Year? One thing I wish I would have known before starting senior year is that it truly does fly by and you need to cherish every moment. I had been told by numerous people that it would be over before I knew it but I didn’t really take their comments to heart (because that’s what everyone says about every year when they’re older than you!). But for some reason senior year does seem to go faster than any other year and before you know it you’re in the home stretch.

What’s been your favorite part of your Senior Year so far?  My favorite part of senior year so far has been the relationships and realizations I’ve had. My friend once put things into perspective for me through a silly analogy. If you’re looking out at a pasture of cows and see a cow moo at another cow one of two things will happen. Either the other cow moos back or ignores the first cow. Either way it’s not a big deal. The other cows in the pasture couldn’t care less what happens and the people driving by seeing the cows don’t care. The moral of the story is to be the cow that moos. If you get ignored it’s not a big deal but if not, you just made another friend! It’s a goofy example but it helped me be bolder and reach out to more people which led me to build a lot of amazing relationships and crazy memories that I greatly treasure.

What are your plans after graduation? After graduation I plan on attending Harding University in the fall and majoring in Elementary Education. I’m super excited!

Any advice for upcoming Seniors?  My advice for upcoming seniors is to enjoy every moment of senior year! You experience a lot of “lasts” in this year and it’s important to savor each of those. This can be really depressing but don’t get caught up in the sadness of leaving. Instead, soak in and capture every moment and be happy you got to experience it. Make sure not to get too busy and miss these. Finish your academic year out strong (senioritis will hit but push through, you’re so close!) and hang out with your family and friends (you’re going to miss them a lot next year). And don’t forget to be the cow that moos.
