Two weeks ago, I got to photograph Katy and Chris in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
I love each and every one of my brides an enormous amount. But this bride? I’ve loved her since the day she was born! Katy is my cousin and I am so excited for her to be engaged and to marry Chris in June. They are such a happy couple and I am just thrilled for them both.
Katy and Chris met at Lee’s Summit High School when Chris was a freshman and Katy was a sophomore. They were both on the robotics team together but didn’t really know one another well and, eight years later, Chris struck up a conversation with Katy in a church parking lot. They’ve been talking ever since. Katy is my cousin but, in my family, cousins are basically extended siblings and Katy has been a core part of my life for as long as she’s been alive. I have so many awesome memories of Katy – from her singing Little Mermaid songs at the top of her lungs when she was three years old to fighting with her at girls camp (ha!) to fangirling over the same books to listening to her cry about her first heartbreak to finding her car stuck in snow when she was lost in the middle of an Idaho blizzard – Katy is an amazing person with an enormous heart and I am over the moon for her right now.
And full disclosure? I totally went cousin-crazy and cried a few big, sloppy tears of joy while we were taking these photographs. I absolutely love seeing Katy so happy and cannot wait for her to marry the love of her life. Welcome to the family, Chris! I hope you love beaches and barbecues and chocolate chip cookies and football and Harry Potter and the Fourth of July and super close family ties because, once you marry Katy, you’re locked in for a lifetime full of those. And it’s going to be awesome.
^^^ This is the photograph that made me cry like a baby. Way to be ridiculously happy, Katy! ^^^
Chris wooed Katy hard and, on one of their very first dates, he set up a candlelit dinner for her on the banks of an insanely gorgeous creek (Lee’s Summit has the best creeks!). We had to head there for some of their engagement photographs and they turned out perfect!
