On July 17th, Andrew and I kissed our sleeping babies goodbye and caught a flight from Kansas City, Missouri to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Neither of us had ever been to Philadelphia before – actually, I’ve never really been North much at all and I’ve definitely never been to the Northeast (unless D.C. counts!) – and I was really, really excited to go to a new area of the country and photograph a wedding in New Jersey for the sweetest bride and groom and then stay a little extra over the weekend. It was so much fun! I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect from Philadelphia. I knew that the Liberty Bell was there, of course, but I had no idea about things to do or places to see or places to eat (Andrew’s number one priority, of course!) and it was so fun exploring a new city with a totally different vibe than anywhere else I’d ever visited before. And right after we arrived? We found a Shake Shack, dropped our bags off at the hotel, and explored the historical part of the city all afternoon. Here’s a few photographs!!
Andrew and I are the biggest history nerds ever. We both have History Degrees and I was raised by a man who thinks Revolutionary War History is, like, the best thing to talk about on Earth besides football and it was so fun to see so many wonderful landmarks and hustle my husband into taking tours as he told a bunch of National Treasure and Nicolas Cage jokes and I’d totally be lying if I said there wasn’t some snickering going on when most of the photographs above were taken. My husband is super funny… and also super fun to travel with, even when he’s cracking lame jokes or striking ridiculously lame poses whenever I try to sneak a photograph of him. Models we are not.
And my favorite part of all? We stayed in the cutest hotel of my life!
We found the Morris House Hotel while searching for hotels online and, despite the fact that I was totally sure it would be haunted (it was built in the 1700’s!), we booked the hotel right after finding it and it was the best decision, like, ever. I loved this hotel! Seriously! I am pretty picky about hotels – I like nice hotels (who doesn’t?!) and I’m not afraid to drop a pretty penny on them but I don’t like spending, like, an entire travel budget on hotels either so I’m basically the worst when it comes to picking accommodations for trips. But! The Morris House was seriously the most welcoming hotel I have ever stayed in. From the crooked floors to the drinks and treats left out for hotel guests in the sitting room to the overgrown ivy all over the front of the hotel to the paintings of flowers and a crazy comfortable bed, I basically just wish I could stay in this hotel, like, all of the time. It was amazing! I’m so glad Andrew found this baby and I couldn’t help but take a whole bunch of photographs to show it off! If you go to Philadelphia, you want to stay here!
