Yes! You read that right!
175 Carnations.
The story goes like this: A few months ago, I decided I wanted to take more photographs with flowers. I mean, I love flowers. They’re pretty! They smell good! They’re colorful! And honestly, if I were not a photographer, I’d probably be some kind of a writer or a stay at home mom or a combination of both (just keeping it real, y’all!) but, if those things fell through, I would absolutely, positively, and without a doubt be a florist. Who doesn’t love flowers, right? Flowers are happy and I love happy things and, because of this, I really just wanted to bring more life into my photography – even in the dead of winter.
I snagged Elizabeth for a model back in November and, after snagging her, we planned on a shoot for the afternoon of January 17th (also known as the afternoon after the morning that Sean proposed to Courtney) and, a week before the shoot, I placed an order with Fifty Flowers because I love them. And when the box came three days before our shoot? There were wayyyy more flowers than I had ordered. My plan was simple: 100 Carnations with a light colored dress and a beautiful girl and a sunset in a dead forest. But! When a box arrived marked “175 Carnations”, I knew that I needed to make every single carnation worth it, especially because, if they made it to the shoot, it would mean they escaped from the ever-loving hands of my two flower-loving children. Then! After the longest three days of waiting, our shoot finally arrived. And you guys! It was MAGIC.
Elizabeth is a high school senior from Fort Smith and she made the perfect model. She is bright and funny and so easy to talk to and, more importantly, has a total heart of gold and is simply one of the friendliest people I have ever met. She was totally comfortable in front of the camera and was totally down for any of my weird ideas – any girl who doesn’t even blink when I say “stand a little more in the light” is a friend of mine – and, really, she was just a joy to photograph. This session was one of those sessions where everything falls into place perfectly and, if I am lucky enough to photograph another session like this ever again, then I will be the happiest photographer ever. Ah! I am so excited to share these!!
Also, yes. Feel free to call me the Queen on Run-On Sentences because I sure gave this blog post a run for its money. Here’s Elizabeth, y’all! Be prepared to pick your jaw off the floor because this is some of the very best work I have ever done in my entire life – not just career, but life. Here she is!!
