Our Halloween! | Every Halloween Should Be on a Friday.

For the past year, every time we asked Max what he wanted to be for Halloween, he’d jump up and down and squeal, “A GHOST! I’m going to be a GHOST! A scary ghost, Mama!”.

I mean, the kid had big dreams. More specifically, he wanted to be a a ghost with a white sheet and holes cut out for eyes, just like Charlie Brown in The Great Pumpkin. But! When we walked into Wal-Mart one afternoon in September before I’d even started thinking about Halloween or even how I was going to eat a Reeses’ pumpkin without bringing it into our peanut-free home, Max spotted it: the costume aisle.

The costumes were to our left as soon as we walked in and, being the most excited four year old ever, Max did a beeline for them and basically did a little break dance in the aisle. And then he saw it! A Superman costume! It was all he had ever dreamed of! Lucky for me, this was not my first Halloween rodeo and I knew he’d change his mind about his costume at least fifteen times, so we left the Superman costume on the rack. Two weeks and thirty five costume ideas later, I pulled him onto my lap and we browsed costumes on Amazon. During that browsing session, he fell in love with a Spiderman costume and a Wolverine costume and a shark costume for Henry. But then! He saw it!

Darth Vader.

Once my bright eyed former blondie saw Darth Vader, nothing else mattered. It was love at first sight and, being a believer in love at first sight (especially when it comes to clothing), I bought it for him on the spot, complete with a Luke Skywalker costume for Henry. Being the Star Wars nut he is, Andrew was thrilled. Being the mom I am, I was just super excited to see my kids dressed up as something cute. The next few weeks were tricky – I had to hide and re-hide the costumes several times and, when the week of Halloween finally arrived, my boys were so excited that they wore their costumes three days in a row.

It. Was. Awesome.

We spent Halloween night with some of our close friends and, even better, Lauren’s oldest son was Obi-Wan Kenobi and our group of Star Wars characters + Daryl from the Walking Dead were basically the cutest thing to ever happen to Halloween in the history of Halloween. Here’s some photographs!!
