Growing up, my family went to the beach every year.
I loved it. I still love it! Going to the beach with my family is one of my favorite things in the entire world. And when I married into the Chandler family and found out that they traveled like crazy? I wasn’t quite sure how I felt about it! On one hand, it seemed kind of exciting. And on the other hand? I was nervous I wouldn’t like it.
Long story short: I love it!
This year, my boys flew out with me for Click Away and, when I went to Salt Lake the morning after our flight landed, they went to Idaho with my in-laws. My in-laws actually live out of the country and this was the very first time Huck had ever been to their house in Idaho so it was super exciting. I was kind of jealous but also just really happy and grateful that I wouldn’t have to worry about them while I was teaching and, when we got back together the afternoon after Click Away, they had had so much fun that they were tired of me smooching their faces after, like, forty-point-seven seconds. Actually, Henry didn’t look at me straight on until, like, Tuesday night, but judging by his monkey ways, I’d say he’s forgiven me by now.
And during that down time where he decided to forgive me for leaving him for four days?
We went to Moab!
Even though I lived in Utah for five years, I had never been to Moab. I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect as I am in no way a serious rock climber or even that much of an outdoor adventure person but I was absolutely amazed by the rocks and the colors and the fact that my children thought it was no big deal to scale up a million-year-old mountain or to put their hands in dinosaur footprints. My boys (including Andrew!) LOVED Moab and, though we did have to stay in for half a day due to runny noses and coughs, we loved every second of it. Seriously, it was such a blast! Max showed his inner outdoorsman like nobody’s business and Huck showed all kinds of bravery when he fell onto of a cactus (!!!) and I showed that I was a mama bear to everyone when Max ran to far away and Andrew proved that he was the most chill dad ever by playing games with the boys and calming them down when they didn’t get ice cream as soon as they wanted. Also, the weather was perfect. The whole trip was perfect.
