Andrew and I married each other five years ago today!
(Wedding Photos by Lovelight Photography)
The first time I saw Andrew, I stopped in my tracks, nudged my roommate and said, “Who is that?”.
The first time Andrew saw me (the day before), he saw me, turned on his heel, and walked away because (and I quote) “of my beauty”. I’m pretty sure him walking away had nothing to do with what I looked like and everything to do with the fact that he was fresh off his LDS Mission but I like to keep things cheesy, so I’ll say he walked away because he thought I was a babe.
Six months, one or two awkward introductions, and an ignored Facebook message later, we spoke for the first time. We were at some kind of cowboy party and, when I stopped for a second and stood at the edge of the dance floor, Andrew walked up to me with his hands in his pockets, said “Hello!” with a bright red face, and asked me a question. And after that question? We talked for over five hours and, five months and two days later, we got married on a hot summer day in a town by river.
And honestly?
It’s been good. So, so good.
Andrew is my rock. He is my best friend and my lover and the father to my children and the person I want to stay up and talk with until two o’clock every morning. He’s the first person I want to see when I wake up and the last person I want to see before I go to bed and he is amazingly supportive (even learned photography for me!) and he is fun and laid back and down for anything- whether that be a fifth night in a row full of take out and late night movies or a last minute trip- he doesn’t mind as long as we are together. I am so grateful that I have such an amazing husband and I cannot even believe that it’s been five years.
Five years!
Five years full of scooter rides and university classes and two beautiful children and college graduations and apartment living and winks across the kitchen and learning about each other and trips all across the world and blanket thievery and mopping floors at two in the morning because there’s no other time to do it and stress and spontaneous afternoons out and library trips and holding hands at church and late night movie marathons and painting and discussions and just being together. Marriage is amazing and I am so happy that I have such a wonderful man by my side for our entire life.
I love you, Mr. C.
